Whenever you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that particular service provider. On their end, 3 records are created automatically right after the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain address where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they show the server that handles the e-mails for that particular Internet domain. The website and the email hosting are usually perceived as one thing, when they're in reality two different services. Having different records for them will enable you to have them with different companies if you'd like. For instance, some new service provider can have fantastic uptime for your site, but you may not want to switch your e-mails from your current host and by using an A record to point the Internet domain to the former and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you will get the best of both providers. These records are checked whenever you want to open a site or send an email - in either case, the provider whose name servers are used for the domain address will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed website or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account from our company and you would like to switch either your website or your emails to a different service provider, it'll take you literally just two clicks to do so. Our Hepsia CP offers an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domain names and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and change the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it will not take more than a few clicks either to add them. You may also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the bigger the priority a particular MX record is going to have. The propagation of each record that you change or set up will not take more than several hours and if required, you'll also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which shows how long a record will remain active after it is changed or deleted.
